YUM... but moreover the entire staff cares about what they're doing for their clients and not just 'working the motions' like some other, but not all, venues. &nbsp;Even though Shannon works at the club, you wouldn't have been able to tell any difference between her wedding and any other wedding when it comes to how they treat you at the Beach Club. &nbsp;I really don't think they can get any better really! &nbsp;They treat everyone the same. <br /><br />Anyway, I was already booked when Teresa came to me about filming on the day of. &nbsp;In fact, so was my mom! &nbsp;Brandan was still available so I paired him up with my father Mike for pre-ceremony and ceremony activities. &nbsp;I meanwhile finished my filming and met up with the 'fam' just as the cocktail hour was starting back at the Beach Club and pretty much took over for the rest of the night. &nbsp;It was my first time, ironically, filming a reception... at least the dancing and partying... out in the Tavern Bayside... and it was a blast! &nbsp;It's open to the outside with great views of the Bay Bridge at night and very charming. &nbsp;<a href="http://www.washingtontalent.com/barmitzvah/millennium.html">Millennium</a>&nbsp;handled the entertainment and I have to admit, they're probably the best live act out there in this market. &nbsp;They're headed up by an American Idol finalist, Travis Tucker, who's also a class guy 'off the stage'. &nbsp;We collaborated lately on some video footage I have of the band that they're likely going to use for promo materials... including some footage from this wedding! <br /><br />Got to work with <a href="http://www.larryhuffmanphoto.com/?CFID=6167192&amp;CFTOKEN=49717621">Larry Huffman</a>&nbsp;once again! &nbsp;And once again, it was a pleasure working with him and his staff! &nbsp;And, I've already mentioned how great the food is at the club... but if you plan on getting married there, ask about the mini-burger and boardwalk fry's for the end of the night. &nbsp;That's become more and more popular at the Beach Club and it's a really nice touch for the guests as the evening winds down.<br /><br />Good luck to Shannon and Chris going forward, and I'm sure I'll be seeing you and your mom quite a bit the rest of the year on some weddings! &nbsp;<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2046752632806049260-6011730913337716500?l=buerhausdesign.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Matt Buerhaushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08691319433249585614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2046752632806049260.post-61522671424346980032010-08-18T05:14:00.012-04:002010-08-18T14:55:09.598-04:00This wedding filmed by mom Sandy and Bailey at a familiar chapel... Lots of energy with this crowd and it made for a great reception over at the <a href="http://www.baybeachclub.com/">Chesapeake Bay Beach Club</a>. &nbsp;Seems like we're there every weekend nowadays. <br /><br />Anyway, here was the problem I had with this one...<br /><br />I had two Caitlin's on back-to-back weekends. &nbsp;If that's wasn't hard enough for this blonde to keep from getting them confused, they had the exact same package... got ready at the same hotel for pre-ceremony... had their weddings at the same church... the same reception venue... the same rooms at that venue... the same times for everything (I'm not kidding)... and get this... the same photographer, <a href="http://www.larryhuffmanphoto.com/?CFID=52038664&amp;CFTOKEN=24018006">Larry Huffman</a> (one of my favorites... been working with him a lot now down at the Beach Club).<br /><br />Talk about lots of confusion and blonde moments for me for those couple of weeks. &nbsp;I'm having flashbacks in fact... Just a fantastic venue honestly. &nbsp;But the highlight of my day was where the ceremony took place. &nbsp;Sacred Heart of Jesus is in Highlandtown and my grandmother attends mass there just about everyday. &nbsp;My grandfather adored the church up until his death a few years ago... so it means a lot to me and brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. &nbsp;The priest even knew my grandmother and praised her home-made snowballs in the summertime that she offers out of her little corner rowhome store just a couple blocks away. &nbsp;So the mass was great! <br /><br />The Reception back at the Renaissance was nothing short of wonderful. &nbsp;During cocktail hour, I was taken back a bit by a roasted pig they had out for their guest... yes... a whole, entire pig! &nbsp;I've seen them before in pictures and what not, but never in person. &nbsp;After getting what I needed video-wise, Cherry's dad talked me into diving into that pig and I have to admit, it was very tasty! &nbsp;Definitely a first at a wedding too for me (over 500 weddings now). &nbsp; The 'apron dance'/ 'money dance' was unique too at this one, instead of having an apron to collect dollars to dance with the bride and groom, their guests pinned the money to them! &nbsp;Great family too. &nbsp;I remember Jamie's dad coming to all of our games, regardless of whether Bryan was at the game or not. &nbsp;So I knew this was going to be a great shoot for my crew once I found that out. &nbsp;Ironically, Jamie also turned out to be one of my favorite servers at Chili's here in Bel Air! &nbsp;An even smaller world! <br /><br />The shoot was flawless. &nbsp;While I was editing, I couldn't tell if it was me filming or my brother and father, which means we've all refined our filming styles the same way. &nbsp;Jamie and Rick were a lot of fun from what I'm told, along with their group. &nbsp;The reception was one big party with a packed dance floor all night! &nbsp;So, here it goes:) &nbsp;Linnea &amp; Ty got married back in January. &nbsp;They were a great couple despite the fact Ty is a Redskins fan (just kidding... haha). &nbsp;They got married at the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore which has a great little chapel. &nbsp;Made for good pics and video. &nbsp;The reception was at Martins West in Baltimore where the food was quite good. &nbsp;As a side note, the Raven's were in the midst of a playoff run at the time and the entire building was lit up purple! &nbsp;I liked it so much I mimicd that lighting on my house, lol. &nbsp;Made for a good backdrop at Martin's when Linnea donned her Raven's jersey and Ty his Skin's jersey.<br /><br />Outside of the flawless shoot that both of my folks helped out on (Sandy &amp; Mike) to stay sharp during the slower winter months (in the wedding world at least), there's not enough words to describe how much fun Ty and Linnea were and how great their families were. &nbsp;Linnea and I are even good Facebook buddies now that write on each other's walls from time to time. &nbsp;I hope that picks up in frequency as football season approaches (is there anyway to skip the Orioles season?)! &nbsp;Elliot and I have played baseball with or against one another now for the better part of 15 years (where has the time gone?), and we're both entering yet another year of fun in the sun! &nbsp;Their video really helped me refine my skills back then and ultimately led to one of my first full-length demo's which really helped my business blossom. &nbsp;I thank them dearly for that, as well as the many referrals I've gotten over the years from Kim! <br /><br />Michelle and Norm were a lot of fun! &nbsp;Both photo/videogenic, Michelle's smile especially filled a room! &nbsp;It's all over the Spotlight, and if it doesn't make you smile just watching it, something's wrong! &nbsp;Norm had a great time at the reception... it's rare to see the groom on the dancefloor for the majority of the night, which always makes for great footage. &nbsp;And the Christmas decor was a wonderful touch to things. &nbsp;I've always dreamed of getting married around Christmas, and shoots like these convince me more and more of that everyday. &nbsp;Now if I can only find a bride one day... lol. <br /><br />I tried, yet again, something a bit new with the beginning of their Spotlight. &nbsp;As with my last dozen or so videos, I used multiple scenes to open things up, but this time I gave them a little motion. &nbsp;Turned out great! &nbsp;Bailey and my mom helped out on this shoot, and the shots they got, as always, were top notch.<br /><br />Best of luck to Michelle and Norm going forward, and thanks again to Elliot and Kim to the recommendation! December 5th, just a couple of weeks away. &nbsp;When he found out I was, Julie contacted me and signed on! &nbsp;Turned out to be an AWESOME shoot. &nbsp;Most people hate the snow and dread the idea of it on their wedding day. &nbsp;But I love it... both in spirit and when it comes to filming in it. &nbsp;Well, it's a bit of a challenge keeping the cameras dry. But if you can manage to do that, the footage is just AMAZING. &nbsp;Ironically, this was like the 4th or 5th year in a row where it snowed on December 5th... and was just the first 6 inches of what would turn out to be a near 90 inch season, a state record by far. &nbsp;The previous record was around 67 inches. &nbsp;Needless to say, I was in my glory this past winter! &nbsp;I'm ready for summer now though. <br /><br />Back to the wedding... it was really just a perfect shoot. &nbsp;The scenery was great, the snow really wasn't a hassle at all, and my cousin Bailey, our up-and-coming new team member (on about her 6th shoot or so) had a great idea for a time-lapse shot of a cityscape in Baltimore from the <a href="http://www.1840sballroom.com/">1840's Ballroom</a>, a fantastic venue, by the way. &nbsp;Kind of a hidden gem just a short walk away from Power Plant Live and the old Bullet tower in downtown Baltimore. &nbsp;Anyway, the time-lapse shot Bailey suggested turned out GREAT! &nbsp;You can check it out in their Spotlight toward the reception portion. &nbsp;I was surprised to find out I was working with a couple of my favorite photographers from&nbsp;<a href="http://www.jlowephotos.com/">&nbsp;JLowe Photos</a>... always a pleasure working with Jen and her husband:) &nbsp;Then it was a treat to film over at <a href="http://www.valleycountryclub.com/">Valley Country Club</a>, which is actually owned by Baltimore Colt legend Art Donovan. &nbsp;His daughter Debbie is the head coordinator there and really does a great job in an awesome intimate setting. &nbsp;Was also a pleasure to work with Heidi Kern from <a href="http://entertainme-de.com/">Entertain Me Event Planning</a>! &nbsp;Heidi always does a great job with the planning aspect of things and might explain why this day went so smoothly:) <br /><br />Dawn and Matt were nothing short of an all around awesome couple! &nbsp;Matt was super nervous before the ceremony and getting quite pale so I shared my bottled water with him and gave him some Bubblicious that's full of sugar to chew on (both items are mandatory items in my camera kits... lol). &nbsp;When he finally got up front and the processional started, you could tell he was truly excited to see Dawn for the first time in her dress. &nbsp;And, FINALLY, a wedding with no rain! &nbsp;Tagert Memorial Chapel I think was built to capture the sun as it's setting. &nbsp;The lighting was just absolutely beautiful. &nbsp;It was a challenge to shoot in those conditions, but after tweaking the settings on a few test shots before the ceremony started, everything was good to go! &nbsp;It might have been the most unique lighting situation for any wedding I've filmed to date. <br /><br />After the ceremony, no artificial sun effects were necessary during the outdoor shots! &nbsp;Mother Nature cooperated with us in that department. &nbsp;Lots of sun flares in this one... and all real! &nbsp;Really turned out magical to say the least. &nbsp;Well, I did use a sun effect in one shot as a transition from one scene to the next, but that was it, I promise! <br /><br />The reception was great as usual. &nbsp;<a href="http://98online.com/pages/jocks_don.aspx">'Short Bus Don' from 98Rock </a>was on hand spinning the tunes (still trying to figure out how they landed Don on a Saturday, his normal radio shift) and the crowd was on the dance floor all night long! &nbsp;A lot of emotion was flying too during some of the more special moments from the evening. &nbsp;Just an all around enjoyable night on the job:)<br /><br />Best of luck to Dawn and Matt in all their endeavors! &nbsp;Being a videographer and editor, I'm always critiquing other productions. &nbsp;Whether it's a commercial on TV to a popular prime-time show or a full length feature film. &nbsp;Admittedly, the only prime-time shows I watch are '24' and 'CSI: Miami' (I'm more of a History Channel and Discovery Channel junkie than anything else). &nbsp;Well, the last couple of weeks my dad and I resurrected a tradition of ours where when new shows are airing for both franchises, which air back-to-back on Monday nights, we get pizza and make a night out of it down at his place. &nbsp;Much to my mother's dismay... she's into romantic movies or John Wayne movies on the Hallmark channel, lol. &nbsp; Anyway, I really admire the editing techniques used by the folks on the 'CSI: Miami' and have long been aware that they use the same editing software that I use. &nbsp;I recently started applying multiple opening scene's to my Spotlight recap video's while using a blur technique that really make any color it's applied to very vibrant. &nbsp;Both techniques that can be seen often in any episode of 'CSI: Miami'. &nbsp;Then, I like how they do the opening credits on '24'. &nbsp;So, in Becky and Chuck's video, I wanted to do something different with the intro and combine some of these techniques. &nbsp;If anybody ever asks you what who you think inspires my work the most, tell them Horatio Cane and Jack Bauer :D Anyway, I'm calling the new opening a 'Modern Video Intro', and making it an option for couples who can choose from that or my more traditional 'Classic Video Intro' from now on going forward into 2010. &nbsp;Examples of both can be seen on our <a href="http://buerhausdesign.com/samplehomebody.html">Samples</a> page. &nbsp;Go check it out! &nbsp;I must admit, when coupled with the right kind of music, it really brought a few tears to my eyes... which, even after 500 some edits now, I'm still not immune! &nbsp;Don't think I ever will be. <br /><br />As for the day itself, you couldn't ask for better weather. &nbsp;We started over at <a href="http://www.powerplantlive.com/">Power Plant Live</a>, Becky and Chuck's favorite hot-spot in Baltimore, which made for some really, really great footage. &nbsp;We were on a time constraint and they couldn't make the venture over to Federal Hill as they initially had planned so I suggested we head down to the waterfront near the old lighthouse. &nbsp;I've done a ton of weddings around the harbor and know that lighthouse always makes for great pictures and video, and it shows in this Spotlight recap! &nbsp;The ceremony and reception was at the Belvedere in Baltimore which is always a welcomed destination for me. &nbsp;I'm pretty tight with the staff over there (<a href="http://www.trufflescatering.com/">Truffles Catering</a>) and they always take good care of me! &nbsp;Makes for a wonderful venue too whether you'd just like to have a reception after a ceremony at a church or have the actual ceremony there at the Hotel.<br /><br />Becky and Chuck were wonderful. &nbsp;They were full of kisses which always makes for great footage. &nbsp;You can definitely tell they're really excited about being together for the rest of their lives too. &nbsp;Just a great, fun couple. &nbsp;Damn shame though they had to get married on a Raven's Sunday!
